UK and allies impose sanctions on firms enabling West Bank settler violence

Zack Polanski, the leader of the Green Party in London, has urged the city’s mayor, Sadiq Khan, to take stronger action against an upcoming Israeli real estate exhibition set to occur in London. This event, known as the Great Israeli Real Estate Event, has drawn criticism from organizations such as Amnesty International for promoting the sale of properties located in illegal Israeli settlements in the West Bank. During a meeting at City Hall, Khan expressed his opposition to the event, stating that Israeli settlements in the West Bank are illegal under international law and contribute significantly to the displacement of Palestinians. He emphasized that he condemns any efforts to sell property in these settlements, whether in London or elsewhere globally. Khan mentioned that he had consulted with the Metropolitan Police regarding potential criminal implications related to the event.

Polanski acknowledged Khan's stance but argued that more decisive action was required. He suggested that the Metropolitan Police should consider shutting down the event based on its unlawfulness, warning that allowing such an event in London could make the city complicit in the expansion of Israeli settlements and the appropriation of Palestinian land. Polanski called on the mayor to advocate for the government to cancel the event entirely, highlighting concerns that London might be facilitating an environment where the confiscation of Palestinian land and destruction of homes can occur without repercussions.
