A 34-year-old man from Zagreb has been arrested by the Zagreb police for allegedly committing 22 criminal offenses against elderly women. The suspect is accused of carrying out 20 serious thefts using bold methods, one robbery, and one assault between August 2025 and July 2026. The attacks occurred primarily in the neighborhoods of Nova Zagreb, Utrina, Dugava, Siget, and Sopot. The suspect approached elderly women on the street, often targeting their jewelry by pulling at their necklaces. In some cases, he distracted victims with conversation or pretended to offer assistance before stealing their jewelry. Two violent incidents were highlighted: one involved the suspect covering the victim’s mouth with his hand to prevent her from calling for help, while another saw him using physical force to snatch jewelry from a woman’s hand. The stolen jewelry was reportedly sold to companies specializing in precious metal purchases, yielding approximately €25,000. The suspect has previously been reported to authorities for similar crimes.
