Two youth held for chain snatching in Vellore

Two youths have been detained by Bagayam police in Vellore following a reported chain snatching incident. The suspects, identified as Kenerson, 21, and his accomplice K. Diwakar, 21, both residents of Katpadi in Vellore town, were apprehended after a gold chain valued at 10 sovereigns was stolen from an insurance company employee. According to initial inquiries, the victim, Kameela Manjula, 54, works at a private insurance firm. She was returning home near the Christian Medical College (CMC) in Bagayam on August 25 when she became the target of the duo. The suspects, riding a two-wheeler, allegedly snatched her gold chain before fleeing the scene. The police later traced the suspects through CCTV footage captured along the route of the incident. Special teams conducted an analysis of the surveillance footage and managed to locate the suspects at their hideout in Katpadi. During the operation, law enforcement officials recovered the stolen gold chain from the pair. Both individuals were subsequently taken into custody and lodged at the Central Prison in Vellore. An ongoing investigation is being carried out to gather further evidence and determine the circumstances surrounding the theft. The incident has raised concerns among local authorities regarding the increasing frequency of such crimes in the area.
