Türkiye’s Somalia offshore drilling nears early completion

Turkey's offshore oil and gas exploration drilling off the coast of Somalia, conducted by the seventh-generation ultra-deepwater drillship Çağrı Bey, is nearing completion ahead of schedule. The operation, which began under a 2024 intergovernmental agreement between Turkey and Somalia, is projected to finish by late September instead of the originally planned October. Somali Petroleum Authority Director General Abdulkadir Adan confirmed the drilling has reached a depth of around 3,000 meters without technical issues. The project represents Turkey's first deep-sea exploration outside its territorial waters and involves collaboration with Turkish naval assets and support vessels. A successful outcome could assess Somalia's offshore energy potential and advance bilateral energy cooperation.
