Türkiye’s crude steel output rises 7 percent in July

Türkiye’s crude steel production increased by 7% year-on-year to 3.4 million tons in July, according to the Turkish Steel Producers Association (TÇÜD). Over the first seven months of the year, total crude steel output rose 7.9% to 23.2 million tons. Finished steel consumption dropped 5.1% in July but increased 4.7% over the same period compared to the previous year. Steel exports grew by 2.9% in volume and 4.4% in value during July, while imports decreased both in volume (19.7%) and value (17.6%). In the first seven months, exports totaled 9 million tons valued at $6.1 billion, while imports amounted to 10.7 million tons valued at $7.4 billion. The export-to-import coverage ratio improved to 82.1%. TÇÜD Secretary-General Veysel Yayan highlighted a significant rise in exports to South America and expressed concerns about the potential impact of the European Union’s quota regime on Türkiye’s steel exports.
