Donald Trump has announced plans for a major military strike against a suspected Iranian underground facility, according to reports from multiple media outlets. The American president stated during a press briefing that the United States “will very likely soon attack this area,” referring to a newly constructed subterranean complex believed by Israeli intelligence to house advanced uranium enrichment equipment. The site, located approximately one and a half kilometers south of Iran’s Natanz nuclear enrichment plant, is reportedly being used by Tehran to relocate centrifuges following recent attacks on its nuclear infrastructure. The intelligence claims originate from both American and Israeli officials, who have cited classified documents suggesting that Iran moved thousands of centrifuges into the secret facility beneath the Kolang Gaz La mountain range, also known as Piyuk. According to these reports, the relocation began in late autumn after a 12-day conflict in June 2025, during which U.S. and Israeli forces attacked several Iranian nuclear sites. During this period, Israeli warplanes struck key facilities in Natanz, Isfahan, and Fordow, killing several scientists associated with Iran’s nuclear program. The U.S. joined the operation later, using powerful bombs to target the same locations. Despite initial claims by President Trump that Iran's nuclear capabilities had been “completely destroyed,” subsequent assessments by U.S. and international intelligence agencies revealed that parts of the program remained operational, albeit significantly damaged. The Piyuk complex was not among the targets during this campaign. However, in the aftermath, Iran reportedly took additional measures to protect its stockpiles of highly enriched uranium, including sealing tunnels and placing explosives at entrances. According to satellite imagery analyzed by experts, the Piyuk facility features an extensive network of underground tunnels, a wide security zone, and reinforced concrete access points designed to withstand aerial attacks. Construction of the site started in 2020, and Iran formally notified the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) of its intended use as a future centrifuge assembly plant. While blueprints remain confidential, analysts track progress through remote sensing technology. Recent months have seen accelerated activity, though the site is still not fully operational. Analysts suggest that the Piyuk facility could serve multiple purposes. It might allow Iran to produce new centrifuges, transfer operations from damaged sites, or prepare for a completely new enrichment facility. Israeli intelligence sources believe that Tehran has already relocated some of its enriched uranium reserves and advanced centrifuges to the location. President Trump has not confirmed the accuracy of these claims, stating that “we don’t have confirmation” of the alleged movement of advanced centrifuges. He emphasized that any potential strike would be aimed at disrupting Iran’s ability to rebuild its nuclear capacity. A senior Iranian security official previously dismissed such allegations, asserting that the facility is not linked to uranium enrichment activities and that Iran’s nuclear program serves exclusively peaceful purposes.
