Trudeau and Blinken as guests at the Salzburg Summit

In March 2024, Blinken visited Austria, meeting with then-Chancellor Karl Nehammer and Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg. He also attended the UN Drug Control Conference in Vienna and met with the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Grossi. Trudeau’s speech is set for Friday. The former Canadian prime minister announced his resignation as party leader and government chief unexpectedly on January 6, 2025, amid internal pressure within his Liberal Party following polls indicating a likely defeat in upcoming parliamentary elections. At the time, he was 53 years old. This year’s summit aims to serve as an exclusive platform for discussing the future of the European location, according to the IV.
