A 66-year-old man named Miljenko Š. has been charged with fraud by the local state prosecution in Čakovec. He allegedly stayed at a hotel in Gornji Međimurje for three nights in early February, using the accommodation, restaurant services, and mini-bar without paying. He falsely presented himself as a professional driver to the hotel staff, claiming he needed to wait for repairs on his work vehicle, but in reality, he was unemployed and receiving a pension and additional benefits. The hotel owner suspected him due to visible eye damage and questioned him about his driver’s license, which he claimed would expire in autumn. Miljenko left the hotel early on the morning of February 9th without checking out. The hotel staff discovered he had not paid a bill of approximately €649.12 and had emptied the mini-bar. The owner reported the incident to the police. After being contacted by the police, Miljenko promised to pay the debt multiple times via phone calls to the son of the hotel owner but never did.
