The third of the fourteen stages of the Camino de la Montaña starts this week from the Grandes Draga.

The third of fourteen stages of Camino Gorski Kotar begins this Sunday from Velika Dragá, according to local reports. The event, organized by the Croatian Mountain Club Bijela Stijena Mrkopalj in collaboration with the Youth Association Malo Po Malo Mrkopalj, commenced earlier this month. The route, which involves hiking through mountainous regions, has been divided into segments, each offering a unique experience for participants. Two previous sections have already taken place, starting from Kamčnik to Lukovdol and then from Lukovdol to Velika Dragá. These initial legs attracted numerous hikers from all over Croatia, including cities such as Zagreb, Sisak, Varaždin, Crikvenica, and Novi Vinodolski. Participants were also reported to include visitors from Slovenia and locals from the region of Gorski Kotar, known for its rugged terrain and scenic beauty. This Sunday, the third stage will begin at 8 a.m. from Velika Dragá, with an assembly scheduled for 7:30 a.m. Hikers arriving in Brod Moravica will participate in a religious service at the Church of Saint Nicholas at 10 a.m., followed by continuing their journey towards the final destination, Čednja. The segment covers a distance of approximately 16.4 kilometers, and organizers advise participants to bring suitable hiking boots, at least two liters of water, spare clothing, and protection against both sun and rain. The event is held roughly once a month, providing hikers with a chance to explore the natural landscapes of the area. Looking ahead, the organizers mentioned that the final stage of the journey is planned for completion likely in the following year. Those who complete all fourteen stages will receive a certificate from Compostela, officially recognizing the achievement, according to Sandra Matković, secretary of the Croatian Mountain Club Bijela Stijena. Participants are encouraged to prepare adequately for the physical demands of the trek, given the challenging nature of the paths. The route offers not just a test of endurance but also an opportunity to immerse oneself in the natural beauty of the region. With each stage, the journey continues to draw interest from both domestic and international hikers, highlighting the growing popularity of the Camino Gorski Kotar as a cultural and sporting endeavor. As the third stage gets underway, the focus remains on the continuation of this annual tradition, ensuring that future participants can look forward to another memorable experience along the trail.
