The study noted that this association held true across genders and educational backgrounds, and even among those carrying the APOE ε4 gene, a known risk factor for Alzheimer’s. Researchers also examined brain autopsies and found that frailty correlated with earlier dementia diagnoses even in individuals with low levels of brain pathology, suggesting separate biological pathways between frailty and dementia.
