Tonin's brother-in-law with his client to over 113 thousand euros of municipal money

In the latest developments concerning local political parties receiving public funds in Slovenia, the List of Matej Slapar has emerged as one of the largest recipients of municipal budget allocations. According to recent reports, the party has received over 113,000 euros from the municipality of Kamnik since December 2022, following the local elections held in 2022. This figure places the party among the top recipients of public funding in the country, though not the highest. The financial support was initially revealed through a report highlighting how local parties receive substantial sums from municipal budgets. The report noted that the List of Matej Slapar, which operates under the leadership of the mayor of Kamnik, Matej Slapar, received approximately 30,747 euros in 2023. In addition, the party's financial inflow increased significantly after the new municipal council began its operations in late 2022. By the end of the year, the total amount had surpassed 113,000 euros. Matej Slapar, who serves as both the mayor of Kamnik and a member of the European Parliament, has been a prominent figure in regional politics. His party, known as the List of Matej Slapar, was formed after the 2022 local elections, during which it succeeded the former List of Tone Smolnikar. Despite this change in name, Slapar remained a key member of the National Council of Slovenia (NSI). Additionally, he holds a seat on the State Council, representing the interests of municipalities in the region including Kamnik, Domže and Ljubljana. The party’s financial support comes primarily from the municipal budget of Kamnik. According to data from the Ministry of Finance, the List of Matej Slapar has received more than 113,000 euros from the municipality since the start of the new council term. This sum far exceeds the contributions received by other local parties such as the Slovenian People's Party (SDS), which received around 7,751 euros, and the Free Slovenia (Svoboda), which received approximately 14,132 euros. Other notable recipients include the list of Dušan Papež, which received 6,496 euros, and the Slovenian Democratic Party (SD), which also received 6,496 euros. Meanwhile, the list of Renate Kosec, representing the municipality of Domže, received 19,860 euros, while the list of Matej Švagan, representing the municipality of Zagorje, received 14,333 euros. It is worth noting that the List of Matej Slapar is not listed on the website of the State Election Commission, which compiled the data used in the initial report. However, the party did secure 3,209 votes in the 2022 local elections, corresponding to 36.17 percent of the total vote share. This indicates a strong presence within the community despite the lack of formal registration with the election commission. Looking ahead, the continued flow of public funds to the List of Matej Slapar will likely remain a topic of interest for local observers and political analysts. As the party continues to operate under the leadership of the mayor, its financial activities and political influence are expected to evolve further in the coming months.
