According to a recent ranking compiled by the readers of the Travelist magazine, Busko-Zdrój has claimed the title of "the best spa town in Poland." This recognition comes amid growing interest in private travel to such destinations, driven largely by the desire to avoid lengthy waiting times for referrals from the National Health Fund (NFZ). As more individuals opt for self-funded treatments, they gain greater flexibility in choosing their destination, timing, and range of therapies available.

The ranking highlights the increasing popularity of private healthcare options in Poland, particularly among seniors who seek alternative ways to access medical care without relying on public funding. While these individuals must cover the full cost of their stay, the benefits include personalized selection of facilities, treatment schedules, and therapeutic programs tailored to their specific needs. The shift toward private healthcare reflects broader trends in consumer behavior, where personalization and convenience play significant roles in decision-making processes.

Among the 47 Polish towns designated as spas, Busko-Zdrój stood out as the winner. Other notable mentions included Muszyna and Krynica-Zdrój, which secured second and third places respectively. These locations are renowned for their unique natural resources and historical significance. For instance, Muszyna is celebrated for its mineral waters used in drinking cures and baths, beneficial for conditions related to the circulatory system, respiratory issues, and rheumatic ailments. Similarly, Krynica-Zdrój is known for its healing mineral waters, favorable climate, and historic architecture, attracting visitors suffering from digestive disorders, urinary tract problems, and metabolic imbalances.

Busko-Zdrój's appeal lies in its mild microclimate, nestled between the Świętokrzyskie Mountains and the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland. This geographical setting contributes to its reputation as one of the sunniest spots in the country. The town also boasts sulfur water springs utilized in therapeutic baths and drinking cures. Visitors can explore attractions such as the Park Zdrojowy, the historic Sanatorium Marconi, the salt spring, and the concert shell. During peak times, a single room with a bathroom starts at around 390 zł per day, while a double room with a bathroom for one person begins at 420 zł. Outside of the high season—typically from January 1 to April 14 and October 15 to December 31—the prices drop significantly. A single room with a bathroom costs 340 zł per night, and a double room with a bathroom for one person is priced at 310 zł. These rates reflect the fluctuating demand and provide opportunities for budget-conscious travelers to enjoy the benefits of a spa stay without excessive financial burden.

Additionally, holders of certain senior cards, including the Large Family Card, the Nationwide Senior Card, and regional senior cards from cities like Radomsko, Starachowice, and Kielce, can receive a 10 percent discount at several sanatoria and hospitals within the spa towns. This initiative aims to make health tourism more accessible to older adults, ensuring they can benefit from the therapeutic environments offered by these destinations without facing prohibitive costs.
