SloveniaThe Health Insurance Institute of Slovenia (ZZZS) has introduced seven new regimes for temporary absence from work, including rules for insured individuals who take sick leave due to caring for a sick child. According to the newspaper Delo, during periods when they receive compensation, insured individuals cannot travel abroad during their working hours without prior approval from ZZZS. However, movement within the local area and outside the place of residence is allowed for health services, basic life needs such as food shopping, urgent administrative tasks, transporting the child to kindergarten or school, or other activities recommended by the family member’s personal doctor. During non-working hours, when the insured person is not temporarily restricted from work due to care, there are no restrictions on movement. According to ZZZS data, the number of lost workdays due to caregiving has more than doubled in the last decade, with a significant increase compared to 2020. ZZZS now plans to enforce regulations more strictly, which could create challenging situations for some parents due to employer expectations or rules at kindergartens and schools.
