Tinubu to Wike: You’ve not disappointed me

President Bola Tinubu expressed strong approval for the work of Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), during a recent ceremony marking the commissioning of several infrastructure projects in Abuja. Speaking at the event, which took place in the Katampe District of the FCT, Tinubu praised Wike's leadership and dedication to improving the nation’s capital. Representing the president was Vice President Kashim Shettima, who delivered the official remarks on Tinubu’s behalf.

Tinubu highlighted Wike's accomplishments since assuming his role, emphasizing how the minister has transformed previously neglected areas of Abuja into thriving urban spaces. The president specifically acknowledged Wike's ability to deliver results without making excuses, stating that the minister's efforts have earned him the nickname "Mr Project" among residents of the FCT. These developments include the transformation of abandoned roads into well-maintained boulevards, the implementation of water projects, and the construction of judicial quarters.

The event marked the eighth day of a series of infrastructure commissionings initiated by the FCT administration. Tinubu described the newly completed Collector Road CN2, also known as Emmanuel Okanla Boulevard, as a symbol of the government's commitment to restoring public trust through visible progress. He noted that the installation of solar-powered street lights along major corridors has significantly enhanced security and revitalized the city's nighttime economy. The president emphasized that such improvements reflect the outcomes of good governance, contributing to increased safety, mobility, and overall dignity for citizens.

Wike elaborated on the significance of the Katampe road project, explaining that it was designed to fill a crucial infrastructure gap that emerged following the completion of adjacent road networks last year. He mentioned that the Gishiri Road and the bridge connecting Maitama were commissioned earlier, but the Katampe road was absent until now. By addressing this gap, the project has facilitated substantial real estate development in the area, drawing in investors and boosting local economic activity. Wike asserted that despite claims that little is happening in Nigeria, the sight of continuous construction and new business investments in Abuja serves as clear evidence of progress.

In addition to road development, Wike underscored the importance of infrastructure in fostering economic growth and creating jobs. He indicated that numerous Nigerians have been positively impacted by ongoing projects throughout the FCT, both directly and indirectly. Efforts to expand development beyond the central areas of Abuja were also highlighted, particularly the recent commissioning of a road linking the Tungan-Madaki communities. This initiative aims to connect remote populations to essential services such as education, healthcare, and economic opportunities. A further milestone is anticipated on Monday with the commissioning of a strategic water supply project in Karu, intended to enhance access to clean drinking water in satellite towns.

Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, the Minister of State for the FCT, offered a vote of thanks during the event, acknowledging the collaborative effort behind the project's success. She credited President Tinubu, the National Assembly, Wike, engineers, contractors, and community leaders for their roles in achieving the outcome. Earlier in the proceedings, Richard Dauda, the Acting Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), detailed aspects of the project, including the length of the road and the technical specifications involved. His comments provided insight into the scale and complexity of the infrastructure initiatives being undertaken in Abuja under the current administration.
