Ogun State's Executive Council has given final approval for a wide-ranging set of infrastructure and institutional development initiatives, marking a significant step in the state’s ongoing efforts to modernize public services, enhance governance efficiency, and reinforce traditional leadership structures. The projects, announced by the Special Adviser to Governor Dapo Abiodun on Information and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, include the construction of 450 two-bedroom semi-detached bungalows with essential infrastructure, the development of 28 new official quarters for members of the Ogun State House of Assembly, and the rebuilding of the Ogun State Governor’s Lodge located in Asokoro, Abuja. Additionally, the council has sanctioned the rehabilitation of multiple critical roads across the state’s three senatorial districts and the formal recognition of several traditional chieftaincies within the Ijebu, Egba, and Yewa Traditional Councils. Among the road projects approved, the reconstruction of the Okun-Owa, Ijebu-Ode Road spans approximately 19.05 kilometers in Ijebu North Local Government Area, featuring carriageways ranging from 5.5 meters to 14 meters in width. In Odogbolu and Ijebu-Ode Local Government Areas, the same road will undergo extensive repairs to ensure safer and more efficient transportation. Other major roadworks include the 5.5-kilometer Phase One of the Odeda-Olugbo Road in Odeda Local Government Area, the 3.6-kilometer Ayobo (Mopol Junction), Lafenwa Junction Road in Ota, Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area, and the 2.78-kilometer Agbala Road in Iperu, Ikenne Local Government Area. These improvements aim to bolster regional connectivity, stimulate economic activity, and improve the overall quality of life for residents. The decision to upgrade and recognize traditional stools reflects the administration’s dedication to preserving and revitalizing indigenous leadership systems. Among the recognized chieftaincies are the Akoko of Tongeji Island, the Onitafin of Orile Itafin, and the Olu of Orile Itori-Odo. Furthermore, the council has approved the creation and enhancement of certain coronet stools under the Ijebu, Egba, and Yewa Traditional Councils, reinforcing the role of these institutions in local governance and cultural continuity. The 450-unit housing initiative, designed as part of the state’s affordable housing program, aims to address the pressing need for adequate residential spaces while also creating employment opportunities through construction-related activities. The 28 sellable duplexes at Ibara Government Reservation Area Scheme II are intended to contribute to property value growth and offer additional housing options for residents. Akinmade emphasized that these developments align with the administration’s long-term vision of replacing outdated public infrastructure with modern, functional, and durable facilities that meet the evolving demands of the population. Several government buildings inherited by the current administration are over 50 years old and have suffered structural deterioration, making them unsuitable for continued use. Their reconstruction is part of a broader urban regeneration effort that has already led to the transformation of numerous aging and neglected public structures into contemporary, well-maintained facilities. This initiative underscores the administration’s commitment to maintaining high standards of service delivery and ensuring that public resources remain accessible and effective for future generations. The reconstruction of the House of Assembly quarters and the Governor’s Lodge is specifically targeted at creating a more conducive environment for administrative work, safeguarding government assets, and facilitating smooth transitions between different governing bodies.
