Suspect shot dead in police shoot-out after Qonce robbery, three others arrested

Three suspected robbers were killed in a shootout with police in Zwelitsha, Eastern Cape, on Saturday afternoon, according to reports from local media. Brigadier Nobuntu Gantana, an Eastern Cape police spokesperson, confirmed that no police officers were harmed during the encounter. She stated that the police acted in accordance with standard use-of-force protocols. “Upon arrival, police were met with gunfire when one of the suspects opened fire on them,” Gantana explained. “We returned fire in self-defence.” In addition to the two deceased and injured suspects, three other individuals were apprehended at the scene without incident. These three remain in police custody. Gantana noted that five suspects have been identified in connection with the Qonce robbery. One was killed, one was hospitalized, and three are currently being held for questioning.
