Three new EV highway wayside amenities added in Karnataka last year, total reaches four

Karnataka added three new wayside amenities (WSAs) with electric vehicle (EV) charging facilities along national highways during fiscal year 2024-25, bringing its total to four operational sites. This places Karnataka ahead of states like Andhra Pradesh and Assam, which each have three such facilities. The state previously had zero operational EV-charging WSAs before FY 2023-24, commissioning its first in that period. Nationally, 84 WSAs have EV charging stations, with most becoming operational by FY 2025-26. Officials note these facilities are planned every 40-60 kilometers along highways, depending on land availability and economic feasibility. The amenities also include restaurants, restrooms, parking, fuel stations, and medical services. The ministry acknowledged no study has evaluated the impact of the PPP model on rural entrepreneurship.
