The world’s top cities for nightlife have been unveiled, with Bangkok claiming the top spot ahead of Berlin, New York City, Melbourne, São Paulo, and Medellín. The rankings, compiled annually by Time Out magazine, reflect the opinions of over 24,000 residents across 150 cities globally, combined with assessments from editors and urban specialists. Unlike previous years, this year’s evaluation considers a broader range of experiences beyond just clubs, encompassing neighborhood pubs, cocktail bars, live music venues, drag performances, and late-night street food. Bangkok took the lead due to its diverse and dynamic offerings, ranging from rooftop bars and iconic clubs to bustling night markets and lively neighborhood cocktail spots. According to the survey, 73 percent of local residents rated the city's nightlife as either 'good' or 'amazing,' while Time Out's experts gave it an impressive 95 percent approval rating. Khaosan Road, Royal City Avenue, and Sukhumvit Soi 11 were highlighted as prime locations for experiencing Bangkok's nocturnal charm, offering everything from high-energy dance floors to tranquil rooftop lounges. Berlin claimed the second position, continuing its reputation as a global hub for electronic music and avant-garde nightlife. The city's renowned techno club Berghain, famous for its notoriously selective entry policy, remains a pilgrimage site for club enthusiasts. A total of 78 percent of locals rated their city's nightlife highly, and 100 percent of Time Out's expert panel endorsed Berlin's status as a premier nightlife destination. The city's evolving landscape includes not only established clubs but also emerging pop-up events and independent bar collectives that contribute to its ever-changing after-hours scene. New York City secured third place, maintaining its standing as one of the most exciting cities to explore after dark. With a mix of warehouse raves, rooftop bars, and cozy neighborhood wine spots, the city's nightlife continues to adapt and thrive. Eighty-two percent of residents rated the city's nightlife positively, and Time Out's experts gave it a 95 percent approval score. From Brooklyn's trendsetting vibe to Greenwich Village's historic jazz clubs and speakeasies, New York offers a wide spectrum of nocturnal experiences that cater to both casual revelers and dedicated partygoers. Melbourne ranked fourth, showcasing its unique blend of culinary excellence and vibrant nightlife. Known for its coffee culture and gastronomic diversity, the city's after-dark scene features live music, LGBTQIA+ venues, cocktail bars, and cherished neighborhood pubs. Seventy-seven percent of locals rated the city's nightlife highly, with particular praise directed toward its pubs and cocktail bars. The central business district, especially Chinatown, is a hotspot for bars, while neighborhoods like Fitzroy and Collingwood provide a more alternative, trendy atmosphere. São Paulo rounded out the top five, offering a nightlife experience that spans rooftop clubs, vinyl listening bars, samba nights, and karaoke. Seventy-four percent of residents rated the city's nightlife favorably, and many highlighted its affordability and strong sense of community. As a major cultural center in Latin America, São Paulo boasts numerous independent spaces, galleries, and street art installations that enhance its nocturnal appeal. Medellín, Colombia, followed closely behind, earning recognition as one of Latin America's most exciting nightlife destinations. The city's reggaeton scene thrives alongside a growing number of listening bars and intimate cocktail spots. Residents gave Medellín the highest local approval rating in the survey, with 87 percent describing its nightlife as 'good' or 'amazing.' The city's consistently warm climate, affordable dining options, and revitalized urban environment contribute to its energetic and welcoming atmosphere.
