The Rock hires out cinema for 200 school pupils

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has fulfilled a long-standing promise to St Gregory Primary School in Suffolk by arranging an exclusive cinema experience for 200 students and their families. The event took place at the Vue cinema in Colchester, where all nine screens were rented out to accommodate the group. The screening of the new live-action Moana film included special treats, including chocolates, jelly sweets, popcorn, Moana-themed cupcakes, and signed posters from Johnson. The arrangement was made following a viral social media video in which the students pleaded with Johnson to help secure the trip for their end-of-year school outing. The initiative was organized by Disney and Johnson himself, who responded to a video shared by the students' head teacher, Daniel Woodrow. The video showed the children appealing to Johnson to convince their teacher to take them to see the film. After viewing the clip, Johnson sent a pre-recorded message promising to book out a cinema for the students and their families. The plan was realized on Friday, when the entire school attended a sing-along version of the film, complete with an introductory video message from Johnson. The event drew approximately 700 attendees, including the students, their parents, and friends. The students, dressed in Moana-themed costumes and T-shirts, were given the opportunity to meet Johnson during a previous visit to the Moana Experience in London. Around 50 of the students had already met the actor earlier this month, setting up the surprise screening. The head teacher, Daniel Woodrow, described the evening as “perfect and incredible,” noting that the atmosphere was overwhelmingly positive. He emphasized how the children were “beaming and glowing” throughout the event, expressing excitement over the experience and even singing parts of the film’s soundtrack. The event marked a unique collaboration between Disney, Johnson, and the local school community. Woodrow highlighted the significance of the gesture, stating that it embodied the values he teaches his students, namely, the importance of making a positive impact through small acts of kindness. In addition to the film screening, the students received personalized items, including signed Moana posters, which were handed out as part of the celebration.
