A new study analyzing U.S. homicide data from 2018 to 2023 found that intimate partner violence often leads to mass and multi-victim homicides. The research categorized homicides into three types: single-victim, multi-victim (2–3 victims), and mass (4+ victims). Over 90% of homicides were single-victim cases, while nearly 9% involved multiple victims. Mass homicides, though rare (less than 1%), typically occurred in homes and had specific demographic patterns, such as higher involvement of non-Hispanic White victims. Firearms were the primary weapon in all homicide types. The study highlights the need for targeted prevention strategies based on these patterns.
