King Norodom Sihamoni of Cambodia returned to his home country from China, where he had been undergoing treatment for prostate cancer, according to local state media. The king, who announced in early April 2023 that he was suffering from prostate cancer and would remain in China for an extended treatment period, had been treated by Chinese doctors in Beijing, who performed an 'successful' operation, according to the royal palace in Phnom Penh. The palace stated yesterday that the king's health has improved after more than three months of treatment. King Sihamoni’s plane landed at Phnom Penh airport this afternoon, where he was greeted by high-ranking government officials, including former Prime Minister Hun Sen and his son Hun Manet, the current prime minister of the country, according to national television. Norodom Sihamoni ascended the throne in 2004, succeeding his father, King Norodom Sihanouk, who abdicated after undergoing cancer treatment in Beijing and died in 2012.
