A violent incident unfolded in the northern German city of Stade near Hamburg, where six individuals lost their lives due to gunfire at a social welfare facility. The victims were four women and two men who all worked at the establishment. Several others sustained injuries during the attack, while the three-month-old daughter of the alleged perpetrator and her mother, both present in the building at the time, escaped unharmed. According to local authorities, the attack was motivated by a family dispute concerning the care of the child. The police have arrested three individuals, including the man suspected of carrying out the attack.

The first reports of gunfire came shortly after 12:10 local time. Authorities confirmed a multiple-fatality shooting had occurred at a social services center on Dänkestrasse, urging residents to avoid the area. Five of the victims—four women and one man—were killed inside the premises, while another man later succumbed to his injuries in the hospital. The suspect is a 45-year-old German citizen of Turkish descent, born in Germany and residing in the town of Ansbach. He had scheduled a meeting on Monday with several of the victims to discuss the issue of caring for his three-month-old daughter.

According to Linenberg Police Chief Katrin Söll, the suspect was known to the authorities for past threats but was not considered to have particularly violent behavior. Additionally, he did not possess a firearms permit. Following the attack, the suspect fled in a car driven by a woman. According to eyewitness accounts, police officers called for them to stop and then repeatedly shot at the vehicle. In footage released by the newspaper Bild, police can be seen setting up a block on a rural road and immobilizing the car. Armed officers ordered the occupants to exit the vehicle and subsequently arrested them.

Strong police forces were deployed in the area following the incident. Children who were present at a nearby daycare and elementary school were safely evacuated. The incident has raised concerns about the safety of such facilities and the potential for violence within personal disputes. Local officials have emphasized the need for increased security measures and support systems for families in crisis.
