Borisov: Let's bring back good upbringing for the hundred days of tolerance towards the government

In recent days, Borysov, leader of the GERB party, has emphasized the need to restore what he calls the "good upbringing of a hundred-day tolerance" towards the government. Speaking during a training session for new cadres in Shumen, Borysov stated that as a systemic party, GERB believes it is essential to reintroduce this period of tolerance, especially when dealing with newly formed political groups. He noted that while some parties have been quick to comment on these new formations, GERB chooses not to engage in such discussions, which he claims leads to suspicions about their intentions.

Borysov highlighted that the current focus of GERB is on training new members, emphasizing that there are no age restrictions for participation. The training includes both young individuals and those who wish to join, with instructors including himself. His goal is to prepare a cadre capable of forming a government and offering potential candidates for future elections, ensuring that the public knows who could become ministers. He expressed satisfaction with previous training sessions and mentioned increasing interest from local leadership within the party.

The leader also discussed the issue of budget deficits and the challenges faced by the government. Reflecting on his tenure as prime minister, Borysov recalled how he addressed significant budget gaps, particularly noting a deficit of around 800-900 million leva in 2009. He emphasized that during his time in power, GERB implemented necessary restrictions and took responsibility for reducing the deficit despite public pressure. He pointed out that when GERB had the authority similar to that currently held by President Radev, they managed the economy effectively, which contributed to his three terms as prime minister.

Regarding the contract with "Botash," Borysov expressed strong criticism, calling it one of the most failed initiatives in Bulgaria's history. He reiterated his previous statements, warning that this agreement poses risks, potentially making Bulgaria more dependent on energy sectors under the guise of cooperation. According to him, even if the deal appears beneficial, it could lead to greater losses, as indicated by the comments of the acting minister Traicho Traikov.

The training sessions in Shumen are part of a broader strategy by GERB to rejuvenate its ranks. Borysov outlined plans for participants to either join the shadow government or prepare for roles as municipal councilors, mayors, and deputy mayors. This initiative aims to ensure that the party remains competitive in upcoming elections by presenting a national team composed of trained individuals ready to serve the public.

As part of this effort, Borysov acknowledged the understanding of long-standing members who have been with him for over two decades. He explained that the objective is to extract a national team from all regional cities, which can then be presented to voters if they find them appealing. This approach aligns with how systemic parties operate, aiming to maintain relevance and influence in the political landscape.
