Four fires near the Mountain: Police identify suspected perpetrator

The police station in Ajdovščina has concluded an investigation into four wildfires that occurred between August 18th and 24th near the village of Planina in the municipality of Ajdovščina. The fires affected dry grass, shrubs, and undergrowth close to the settlement. Firefighters from several local units responded quickly, preventing the fires from spreading further and causing significant damage. Three of the fires were caused by discarded cigarette butts, while the fourth was intentionally set by a 30-year-old man from Northern Primorska, who ignited dry grass. Although no material damage occurred, the police emphasized that the suspect's actions posed a serious threat to life, health, and property. Due to the dry vegetation and windy conditions, the fires could have rapidly spread and caused much worse consequences. The police will file a criminal complaint against the 30-year-old for alleged negligence in causing general danger.
