Split receives Bible stores: Books reach those who cannot access libraries

Split is launching a new project called 'Bibliokombi,' which aims to provide access to library resources and cultural content for vulnerable groups who cannot reach traditional libraries. The initiative is funded by the European Social Fund Plus (85%) and the Ministry of Culture and Media of the Republic of Croatia (15%). It will run until July 14, 2029, and include 152 participants such as children and young people under 29, individuals over 55, and those with disabilities. The project seeks to reduce social exclusion among these groups by bringing library services directly to them through mobile units. This follows the earlier 'Za dobre vibre, čitaj libre' project, which introduced a bibliobus service for rural areas. The new bibliokombi will focus on urban areas within the Split-Dalmatia County where basic library services are unavailable. Officials emphasized that libraries and cultural content are a public good and should be accessible to all. The project aligns with Croatia’s National Strategy for Promoting Reading and continues investments in library infrastructure and mobile libraries. A promotional campaign has been launched by 27 national libraries in the county under the

Bibliomobil arrives in Split: 'If a person cannot get to the library, the library must get to him'

The City Library of Marko Marulić in Split has launched a project called 'For Good Vibes and Keep Reading' worth €530,640 aimed at expanding library services and providing access to books and cultural content for vulnerable groups who lack basic library services. The initiative, funded primarily by the European Social Fund Plus and partially by the Ministry of Culture and Media of Croatia, will run until July 14, 2029, and include 152 participants such as children, youth under 29, people over 55, and those with disabilities. The project includes acquiring new mobile library units ('bibliokombi') designed specifically for vulnerable groups, including individuals with mobility issues. These units will establish new service points in urban areas and local communities within the Split-Dalmatia County where traditional library services are unavailable. The goal is to ensure equitable access to libraries and cultural resources, emphasizing their role as a public good rather than a privilege.
