Virginia State University shooting, campus locked down: "Many people injured", at least 5 injured

A shooting has left at least five injured at the Virginia State University campus, prompting a lockdown and ongoing investigation into the incident. The attack occurred late at night near the Quad Annexes, close to university housing areas. When police arrived, they found victims struck by gunfire, all subsequently transported to local hospitals. One of the wounded is in critical condition, while the other four sustained non-lethal injuries, according to university officials. The exact circumstances of the shooting remain under investigation, with law enforcement working to identify those responsible. The university reported multiple suspects involved in the incident. The alarm was raised around 1:30 a.m., triggering immediate lockdown procedures on campus. Authorities isolated the affected zone and urged students and staff to avoid the area as officers sought to determine the origin of the shots and who had fired them. The lockdown was later lifted, though a significant presence of law enforcement remained on campus to support investigators. At this stage, there have been no arrests, and the sequence of events leading up to the shooting is still unclear. Virginia State University, one of the historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs), is located in Chesterfield, within the Ettrick area south of Richmond. It serves approximately 5,000 students. This incident occurs just ahead of the start of the new academic year, following recent arrivals of new students and with classes set to begin on Monday. Meanwhile, in Michigan, authorities are conducting another investigation following a series of shootings that resulted in six deaths and one serious injury. Among the victims is the alleged perpetrator, 39-year-old Chad Hickman. The initial report came from a residence in Missaukee County, in a rural area about 270 kilometers northwest of Detroit. Police discovered three deceased individuals and one seriously injured person. A search for Hickman, described as armed and dangerous, was launched. Emergency units, including canine teams and aerial vehicles, were deployed during the search. During these efforts, a fourth victim was found in another home. Hickman’s vehicle was eventually located in a wooded area near Lake Whitlock in the town of Caldwell. Both he and another individual were found dead in the same location. Lieutenant Ashley Miller, spokesperson for the Michigan police department, stated, “There is no threat to the public.” Officers will continue patrols in the area while examining the various scenes. “We will conduct a thorough investigation and want to ensure members of our community stay informed about the current situation and what we discover throughout this process.”
