South African musicians will headline Theatre on the Square's Winter 2026 Lunch Hour Concert Series, offering a diverse range of performances spanning classical, jazz, and contemporary genres. The series begins this week and runs through August 28, with weekly concerts scheduled every Friday at 1pm. Each performance includes a variety of acts, ranging from solo artists to ensemble groups, all aimed at showcasing the richness of local talent. The concert series kicked off with a performance by flautist Isabel Bradley and pianist John Warner, titled Flute, Finesse & A Little Fru-Fru. This opening act set the tone for the upcoming weeks, highlighting the blend of technical skill and artistic flair expected throughout the season. Following this, the lineup includes Sax After Noon, a session featuring saxophonist Phil Holder, vocalist Tulla Eckhart, guitarist Luke van der Merwe, and pianist Jonathan Birin. These performances aim to provide a broad spectrum of musical experiences for attendees. Throughout the series, audiences can expect to see both emerging and established performers. Among them are pianist Daniel de Wet, guitarist Renier Prins, Amanda Blankfield-Koseff, Evelyn Green, and musicians Malcolm Nay and Zanta Hofmeyr. Additionally, baritone Dr Jean du Plessis will perform with pianist Sonja van Zyl. The program also includes French song and opera performances by mezzo-soprano Megan Napier and pianist Annalien Ball, as well as Fabulous Flutes, which will feature young flautists Jesse Jardin, Tahlitha Pienaar, and Gabriella Claassen alongside acclaimed pianist Eugene Joubert and flautist Dr Cobus du Toit. As the series progresses, further highlights include performances by mezzo-soprano Aukse Trinkunas, cellist Gerrit Korsten, and pianist Paul Ferreira. Opera enthusiasts can look forward to Arias of the Heart by Sasa Yende. The Welsh Male Voice Choir, under the direction of Neil Bennett, will return for another performance, continuing the tradition of choral music. Later in the season, Nhlanhla Dube and The Music Moves Band will take the stage, along with violinist Jonathan Mayer and violist Lyn Rudolph, and pianist Laura Pauna. The final concert on August 28 will feature Pauna performing Beethoven’s 32 Variations and Schumann’s Sonata No. 2.
