Russia's deadly plan triggers alarm in Germany

German authorities have thwarted a planned assassination against Stefan Thumann, founder and director of the German defense contractor Donaustahl, which produces drones used by Ukrainian forces. According to the German newspaper Die Zeit, two individuals, a Ukrainian citizen and a Romanian citizen, were arrested earlier this year for allegedly surveilling Thumann and his father between December 2025 and March 2026. The suspects were reportedly recruited by Russian intelligence and promised payment for their actions. Investigations revealed that the Ukrainian suspect had been in regular contact with Russian intelligence services through smart devices. Russia is believed to be targeting Donaustahl due to its supply of advanced drones to Ukraine, which are used in precision strikes on the Russian front lines. As a result, German police have increased security measures for Thumann and other employees at the company.
