Slovenian volleyball players advanced to the semifinals of the Nations League after defeating Poland in a hard-fought match. This victory was the fourth time in six seasons that Slovenia has reached the semifinal stage, with previous attempts ending in defeat in 2021, 2024, and 2025. This year presents a new opportunity for the team to claim a medal, facing one of the strongest teams in the world, Poland. The match saw Slovenia overcome a tough challenge against Poland, who ranked first on the world rankings, while Slovenia occupied fifth position. Both teams have a rich history of success, with Slovenia being three-time World Champions and two-time European champions, as well as holders of the league title. Poland, meanwhile, has been dominant in recent years, having claimed multiple titles in both the World and European championships. Despite their strong performance in the group stages, Poland did not field their full attacking lineup during this match. However, they still managed to secure a decisive win over Slovenia, which had previously defeated them in the opening round of the tournament in Linz. This time, however, Poland played with greater intensity and precision, dominating key aspects of the game through superior service and blocking. They limited Slovenia's ability to develop their own offensive plays, making it difficult for the Slovenians to find consistent scoring opportunities. In the Slovenian squad, Alen Pajenk stood out as the top performer, contributing 11 points. Rok Možič added seven points, while captain Tine Urnaut and Nik Mujanović each scored six. On the Polish side, Wilfredo Leon led the attack with six of his 16 points coming from aces, while Bartlomiej Boladz contributed 15 points. Slovenia will now face the winner of the other semifinal matchup between Japan and the United States. The final and bronze medal match are scheduled for Sunday. The outcome of these remaining games will determine whether Slovenia can finally bring home a medal from the Nations League, a goal that has eluded them in past campaigns despite their strong performances.
