A satellite developed by the University of Maribor and the Slovenian high-tech company SkyLabs has successfully reached low Earth orbit. Named TRISAT-S, it is the fourth Slovenian satellite and the third in the TRISAT family. Its main purpose is to test technologies that could be used in more complex space missions, including energy-efficient management and visual autonomous navigation using six cameras. The launch marks a significant milestone for Slovenia, demonstrating the potential of combining university research with domestic industry. The project faced several delays over five years due to technical challenges and issues at the launch site, but finally succeeded on September 5th from Norway’s Andøya launch facility.
