The body was found near the estate of renowned Serbian singer Seka Aleksić, prompting local residents to comment on the bizarre scene. Some described seeing the body discarded like a dog, while others noted the presence of a knife and bucket nearby. Predrag quickly confessed to the crime during questioning at the court in Sremska Mitrovica. The couple had been together for only two years, and while Pero was beloved by all, Mara was resented by many. Neighbors claimed she had taken valuable household items from their home, including a television, washing machine, and other appliances. After separating, neighbors believed the relationship had ended, but Mara returned shortly thereafter, persuading Pero to transfer his house to her.
