The town of Skrad celebrated its annual Day of the Municipality with a rich blend of tradition, community spirit, and entertainment, drawing locals and visitors alike to partake in a series of cultural and social activities. The festivities began on August 15, the feast day of the Assumption of Mary, with a solemn mass held at 11 a.m. at Skradsko Brdo, one of the most recognizable landmarks in the area. This was followed by a communal gathering at Hribac, where attendees enjoyed food, conversation, and shared moments marking this special occasion for the entire municipality. The evening's program featured performances by Old School Band from Rijeka, offering a mix of music that appealed to all generations. The band’s repertoire ensured a lively atmosphere that extended into the night, creating a memorable experience for everyone present. Earlier in the week, on August 14, a literary and musical event titled “Divanimo po domače” took place at the Skrad Cultural Center. Organized by the Skradska žena association, the event included folk poetry, acting, and singing by local artists such as Emil Crnković, Josip Štimac, Walter Crnković, and Slavica Grgurić Pajnić. A traditional choir called Moravičani added to the evening’s charm with their performance. A highlight of the earlier part of the celebration was the 10th edition of the Children’s Games, which had been successfully held in late July. The event attracted numerous children and families who participated in various workshops, face painting, balloon art, and sports competitions organized by the local group Naša djeca Skrad. These activities were filled with laughter and joy, reinforcing the importance of such community-driven initiatives for younger generations. In addition to these main events, the municipality also hosted a summer cinema screening under the stars at the Skrad Cultural Center. As part of the Cinehill Festival and in collaboration with the local government, the screening featured the French film Pas na sudu (No Trial). Attendees enjoyed the movie alongside complimentary drinks and snacks, enhancing the overall experience of the outdoor event. For those interested in exploring the natural beauty surrounding Skrad, the Zeleni Vir attraction remained open throughout the duration of the celebrations. Located within the Gorski Kotar region, Zeleni Vir is renowned for its impressive 70-meter-high waterfall, the narrow canyon known as Vražji prolaz, the cave called Muževa hiša, and the historic hydroelectric plant from 1921. Visitors could enjoy well-maintained hiking and mountain trails, followed by refreshments and traditional meals at the on-site accommodation facility. The Zeleni Vir attraction, managed by the Local Development Agency PINS, was accessible daily during the season from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., providing an opportunity for both residents and tourists to immerse themselves in the untouched beauty of the landscape. The combination of cultural events, natural attractions, and community engagement made the Day of the Municipality in Skrad a multifaceted celebration that left lasting impressions on all participants.
