Nearly 13,000 student-supported places, applications open until August 18

Almost 13,000 subsidized housing spots have become available for students in Slovenia, with applications open until August 18. The Ministry of Education, Science and Youth has announced a call for submissions allowing students to apply for admission or extension of subsidized accommodation in student dormitories and private residences for the academic year 2026/2027. The move aims to provide financial support for students during their studies. For the new academic year, a total of 12,883 subsidized housing spots are available. In addition, there are 32 extra spots reserved specifically for students with recognized international protection status and those with recognized temporary protection status. This brings the total number of allocated spots to 12,915. Applications must be submitted through the eVŠ portal. Students who wish to join the subsidized housing program for the first time are required to submit their application via the online portal eVŠ. Applications can be submitted starting July 1, 2026. However, students who want to be placed on the priority list must submit their request by August 18, 2026. Similarly, students already benefiting from subsidized housing who wish to extend their stay for the new academic year must also submit their application by the same deadline. The amount of subsidy depends on the type of accommodation. For the academic year 2026/2027, the subsidy will vary depending on the kind of housing. Students living in public student dormitories, student-hostel complexes, and student houses will receive a monthly subsidy of 41.46 euros. Those residing in private student dormitories and private accommodations will receive a higher monthly subsidy of 103.36 euros. The ministry urges students to submit their applications promptly and ensure all information in their application is correctly filled out before the deadline. It emphasizes the importance of timely submission to avoid missing out on the opportunity to secure a spot in the subsidized housing program.
