Polish cryptocurrency exchange scandal expands

A cryptocurrency exchange scandal in Poland involving the now-closed platform Zondacrypto has expanded, implicating high-profile figures. Prime Minister Donald Tusk accused 'leading figures' of the national-conservative PiS party of involvement in 'dirty and dark dealings' on the platform. Zondacrypto abruptly ceased operations in April, leaving thousands of creditors out of pocket with losses estimated at 350 million zloty (around 83 million euros). The founder, Sylwester Suszek, disappeared in 2022, while his successor, Przemyslaw Kral, reportedly fled to Israel or a Gulf state. Kral’s lawyer stated he is willing to testify in exchange for a lighter sentence. Prominent figures under investigation include Radoslaw Piesiewicz, president of the Polish Olympic Committee, who had recovered his crypto investments before the collapse but was later implicated in a sponsorship deal with Zondacrypto. Many sports organizations are demanding his resignation.
