North Korea accuses NATO of preparing for war

North Korea accused NATO of preparing for war by expanding its fuel infrastructure across Europe, according to a statement carried by the state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA). North Korea claimed NATO's plans indicate the alliance is becoming more aggressive militarily, citing efforts to connect a fuel supply network of approximately 10,000 kilometers in Western Europe with newer member states in Eastern and Northern Europe. The KCNA commentary did not provide evidence to support its claim that the project is intended to support potential conflicts outside Europe. NATO stated it is strengthening deterrence and defense capabilities following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022. North Korea condemned military cooperation between the United States, South Korea, and other countries, including NATO members. Since signing a comprehensive strategic partnership agreement in June 2024, which includes mutual defense commitments, North Korea and Russia have deepened their military ties. In 2024, Pyongyang sent approximately 14,000 troops to the Russian Kursk region to assist Russian forces in repelling a large-scale Ukrainian attack.

North Korea: NATO's fuel plan shows the alliance is preparing for war
