Six new UNESCO World Heritage sites from the Middle East and North Africa have been added to the list during the 2026 committee session in Busan, South Korea. These include Wadi Wurayah in the UAE, which becomes the country's first natural heritage site, Jordan's Aqaba Marine Reserve, Iran's Alamut Castle and related fortifications, Tunisia's Sidi Bou Said, Lebanon's Mount Amel Castles, and Sebastia in Palestine. Two of these sites—Mount Amel Castles and Sebastia—were added to the List of World Heritage in Danger due to urgent conditions. The additions were decided during the 48th session of the World Heritage Committee, which evaluates nominations and assesses the status of existing sites.
