Singapore PM Lawrence Wong steps up renewal pace in cabinet reshuffle

Singapore's Prime Minister Lawrence Wong accelerated the renewal of his Cabinet by appointing two acting ministers and reinstating former Minister Ng Chee Meng, who lost his parliamentary seat in 2020 but regained it in the 2025 election. Coordinating Minister for National Security K Shanmugam was elevated to Senior Minister, becoming the first to hold this position without previously serving as deputy prime minister or prime minister. Labour chief Ng Chee Meng returned to the Cabinet after focusing on his role as a Member of Parliament and union leader. Other changes included promoting transport chief Jeffrey Siow and Minister for Culture, Community and Youth David Neo to full ministerial roles. The Ministry of Trade and Industry will be renamed the Ministry of Energy, Trade and Industry, led by Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong and former manpower chief Tan See Leng. Wong emphasized that the reshuffle aimed to balance experience with younger leadership.
