Singapore pledges nearly $65,000 to aid Venezuela recovery after deadly quakes

The Singapore Government has pledged US$50,000 (approximately S$64,700) to assist Venezuela's recovery and reconstruction efforts following two powerful earthquakes on June 24 that killed over 3,500 people and displaced thousands. Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan announced the contribution via a Facebook post, emphasizing Singapore's solidarity with the affected communities. The funds will be directed to the Venezuela Recovery and Reconstruction Fund managed by the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean. Additionally, the Singapore Red Cross had previously committed S$100,000 in humanitarian aid to support immediate relief efforts, including search and rescue operations and emergency medical care. The earthquakes, measuring 7.2 and 7.5 on the Richter scale, were among the strongest to impact Venezuela in over a century, resulting in significant casualties and displacement.
