Scottie Scheffler Reflects on Strong Season After St. Jude Championship Win

Scottie Scheffler secured a commanding victory at the FedEx St. Jude Championship in Memphis, Tennessee, finishing eight strokes ahead of second-place finisher Si Woo Kim. Scheffler acknowledged the frustration of coming up short repeatedly despite feeling he played well. "I've had some close calls this year," he said. "I feel like I kept saying at the end of each tournament, 'Man, it feels like I'm playing pretty good, just little things aren't going my way.'" One such incident involved a shot that struck a sprinkler system, rolled down the course, and landed in water. Despite these setbacks, Scheffler maintained focus and composure. "I going into today, I just wanted to try to do my best, try and execute," he explained. "Did a good job of staying in it and bouncing back... Was able to kind of relax." This resilience paid off, allowing him to secure his second win of the season and his 21st career victory on the PGA Tour. Scheffler’s triumph came after a period of relative drought, as his last victory had been at the season-opening American Express Golf Tournament in January. Throughout the year, he consistently placed second at major events such as the 3M Open, Cadillac Championship, RBC Heritage, Travelers Championship, and The Masters. When asked about his proudest achievement of the season, Scheffler emphasized consistency. "I think I've been really consistent," he said. "Outside of Amex, I felt like I didn't play as good early in the year as I could have." Despite initial struggles with his swing, Scheffler remained determined. "Just staying consistent, staying in it each week," he added. "That's what I'm most proud of I think, is just having the ability to fight and claw my way through things." The win not only validated his efforts but also solidified his position in the historical records of professional golf. Scheffler became the third-youngest golfer to achieve 21 PGA Tour victories, trailing only Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus.
