The South Coast Railway (SCoR) Vijayawada division has significantly expanded its renewable energy initiatives by installing 4,864 kWp of solar capacity through 265 rooftop and standalone installations. These include solar panels at railway stations, service buildings, staff quarters, and level crossing gates. In the financial year 2025-26, these installations generated over 4.4 million units of clean energy, saving approximately ₹4.61 crore and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 2,525.52 tonnes. During the current financial year (April to July 2026), the division generated 1.99 million units of electricity, saving ₹1.85 crore and avoiding 1,592 tonnes of CO2 emissions. Additional sustainability efforts include switching to LED lighting, installing solar water heaters, and commissioning solar-powered street lights and signals. The Vijayawada railway station received IGBC Platinum certification for its eco-friendly design, while ten other stations have achieved Net-Zero 'Shunya Plus' status. Head-On Generation (HOG) train operations further contributed to energy savings by reducing diesel consumption and associated emissions.
