Writer and columnist Marjan Berk has passed away at the age of 93 in Amsterdam. Her family announced her death through her publisher. Berk had a long career in theater, musicals, film, and television, and she began writing books in 1981 with her debut novel Nooit meer slank. She authored 42 novels, short story collections, and children’s books, and was once crowned 'the queen of light literature' by the magazine Opzij. Born in Zeist in 1932, she initially trained as a nurse but pursued a career in the arts after being admitted to the Amsterdam School of Drama at the age of 21. From 1983 onward, she wrote columns for several publications, including the Utrechts Nieuwsblad, AD, and Mokum magazine, making her the oldest known columnist in the Netherlands. Colleagues praised her contributions to art, culture, and travel writing, noting her influence on women in the industry. She also received the Gouden Televizier-Ring award in 1994 for her work on the drama series Vrouwenvleugel.
