Final victory against Zaugg Staudenmann triumphs on the Rigi

Fabian Staudenmann secured his second victory on the Rigi, defeating fellow association member Lars Zaugg in the final bout. The Berner triumphed on the “Queen of the Mountains” once again, marking his second consecutive win since 2024. In the decisive match, Staudenmann overpowered Zaugg after approximately four minutes near the sawdust ring. Initially uncertain of his success, Staudenmann began moving toward the center of the ring before realizing his victory. Staudenmann’s day started less than ideally. He was defeated by Innerschweizer Samuel Schwyzer in the opening bout with a gesture. However, he quickly regained momentum, winning all subsequent bouts except one, which he won without the highest score. His path to the final bout was eased when he managed to send Nordwestschweizer Lars Voggensperger into the sawdust two seconds before the fourth bout ended. This allowed him to secure a fifth-round victory against Berner Michael Moser, who fell swiftly and decisively. Zaugg made his way to the final despite being bodged by Sinisha Lüscher. With this result, the Rigi Schwinget has now been won by a guest for the third time in a row. Zaugg, a 24-year-old from Herbligen, had previously never claimed a crown in his career. This was his second final bout, though the first of such magnitude. Despite the challenge, Staudenmann showed no mercy, ultimately securing the victory. The Innerschweizer were represented again in the final standings, thanks to Urner Lukas Bissig. Bissig nearly ended the Innerschweizer slump on the Rigi, although he failed to defeat Dominik Gasser in the fifth round. Additionally, Schwyzer contributed to Innerschweizer highlights by defeating Moser after lunchtime. Schwyzer's defensive skills were evident both in the initial bout against Staudenmann and later against Moser. Notably, Nordwestschweizer Nick Alpiger, who recently won the Weissenstein Schwinget, struggled against stronger opponents. He lost his first bout to Michael Gwerder within seconds and followed up by losing the third bout to Christian Gerber. Prior to this, Alpiger had not suffered a loss in the current season, making these results particularly surprising. The competition on the Rigi continued to showcase a mix of familiar faces and emerging talents. While Staudenmann solidified his position as a dominant force, other athletes demonstrated resilience and skill, contributing to a dynamic and competitive atmosphere.
