SC awaits Guv's call on MP minister’s prosecution for Op Sindoor remarks against Colonel

The Supreme Court of India has postponed its decision on prosecuting Madhya Pradesh state minister Kunwar Vijay Shah for making derogatory remarks against Colonel Sofiya Qureshi during Operation Sindoor until the governor grants sanction. The remarks, where Shah referred to Colonel Qureshi as 'the sister of terrorists,' led to a First Information Report (FIR) being filed. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) concluded its investigation and reported to the court, but the prosecution requires the governor's approval under Section 217(1) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Samhita (BNSS). The court instructed that once the governor provides sanction, the SIT's report will be filed with the appropriate court. The case arose from a challenge to a High Court order that took suo motu cognizance of the remarks and directed the FIR. The state government confirmed that the governor's decision is expected within a few days.
