Saudi Arabia in advanced talks to join Türkiye’s KAAN project: Report

Saudi Arabia is reportedly in advanced discussions with Turkey regarding participation in the KAAN fifth-generation fighter jet program, according to a report by London-based news outlet The New Arab. The program, led by Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAŞ), is currently using U.S.-made General Electric F110 engines but aims to transition to domestically developed TF35000 engines for future versions. TUSAŞ's general manager mentioned that negotiations with Saudi Arabia have reached a high level, with options including direct purchase or deeper collaboration. While no formal agreement has been announced, the potential partnership could enhance Turkey's strategic autonomy and boost KAAN's export appeal. The KAAN project, which recently completed its first flight and ongoing testing phases, plans to replace Turkey's F-16 fleet starting in the 2030s.

Bias read (Center): The article presents information about diplomatic and defense-related discussions between Saudi Arabia and Turkey without overtly favoring either side. It reports on the technical aspects of the KAAN program and quotes TUSAŞ officials neutrally. There is no clear ideological slant or emphasis on one
