In addition to these messages, the pastor sent images of himself with his upper body exposed. According to the court, the communication was sexually charged and had the potential to harm the development of the minors.
The court found sufficient evidence to support the prosecution's claims, noting that the nature of the interactions was explicitly sexual and detrimental to the minors' well-being. The convicted man received a conditional prison sentence of one year and two months, with a probation period of two years. As part of the judgment, he must compensate each victim with between €2,000 and €3,000 for damages caused by the offense, as well as pay approximately €12,500 in legal costs. However, the sentence is not yet enforceable.
The pastor was placed under arrest for his ecclesiastical duties until the judicial process concluded. The decision regarding his removal from office was made during a meeting of the Diocesan Court of the Archdiocese of Turku earlier this spring.
