Samsung foldables hit record 1.44m preorders, led by new Fold8

Samsung Electronics reported that its new Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Fold8, and Flip8 models achieved 1.44 million pre-orders in South Korea within seven days, setting a new record for Galaxy smartphones. This surpasses previous records, including the Galaxy Note10's 1.38 million pre-orders from 2019 and the Galaxy S26 series' 1.35 million pre-orders. The standard Fold8 model contributed significantly to the success, accounting for about 70% of pre-orders. Sales averaged approximately 140 units per minute during the preorder period. The company noted that younger consumers aged 13 to 30 comprised about half of the buyers, with a notable increase in female customers for the Fold8 Ultra and Fold8 compared to the previous Fold7 model. Despite these strong sales figures, Samsung's mobile and network division faced an operating loss of around 700 billion won ($491.6 million) in Q2 due to increased costs for memory and components. The new foldable lineup will begin its global launch in over 100 countries on August 7, preceding Apple's anticipated entry into the foldable market.
