Russians with ballistic missiles over Kiev and the surrounding area, many dead and wounded

Russian ballistic missile strikes hit Kyiv and surrounding areas early on Friday, leaving at least 15 dead and over 50 injured, according to local authorities. The attacks occurred overnight, with multiple explosions reported across the Ukrainian capital and its suburbs. Firefighters and emergency services were still working to contain fires and rescue survivors from damaged buildings. The State Emergency Service confirmed 14 fatalities and 27 injuries within Kyiv Oblast, with rescue operations ongoing. Damage was reported in the districts of Brovary, Bucha, and Fastiv, where warehouses and vehicles caught fire following the attack. Local officials noted that more than seven locations across the city had been affected, including neighborhoods such as Holosiivskyi, Obolon, Dniprovyi, and Svatozerskyi. Rescue teams worked through the night to extract victims from the rubble of a collapsed warehouse in the Holosiivskyi district, successfully pulling two people to safety. Authorities believe several others remain trapped beneath the debris. In the Obolon district, a missile struck a 20-story residential building, triggering a fire that spread to another apartment block and two storage facilities. In the Dniprovyi neighborhood, a warehouse also caught fire, while remnants of the missile landed near a residential building. Eyewitnesses and journalists from Kyiv Independent reported hearing the first powerful explosions around midnight local time. According to their accounts, multiple ballistic missiles struck the city, with detonations continuing for nearly an hour. Ukrainian air defense forces issued repeated warnings about incoming ballistic missiles approaching Kyiv during the night. A warning about drones was also issued shortly after midnight. Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko posted on social media that Kyiv and the region were under ballistic missile attack, with more rockets still flying toward the capital. He urged residents to seek shelter. This latest strike came just days after a previous large-scale Russian missile attack on Kyiv on August 1, which killed at least nine people and injured more than 30. A video surfaced online showing what appears to be a Russian drone pursuing a vegetable seller in the southern Ukrainian city of Kherson. The drone explodes close to the man, who is in his fifties. According to Ukrainian police, who released the footage, the man suffered shock and injuries but survived. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrei Tsybulsky accused Russia of terrorizing civilians and committing barbarism in response to the video. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy echoed this sentiment on social media, describing the incident as part of a "drone safari" conducted by Russian forces against civilians in Kherson.
