Russia is retaliating for its attack on Moscow.

On Thursday morning, a significant attack was carried out against a refinery located in Moscow, marking one of the most substantial drone strikes on the Russian capital in recent years. According to reports, Ukrainian drones targeted the facility, causing extensive damage. One of the most striking visuals captured during the incident showed a massive cover of a fuel tank being launched into the air due to the force of the explosion. The fire that followed produced thick black smoke visible from several kilometers away. This refinery plays a crucial role in supplying nearly half of Moscow's gasoline needs and houses the largest oil storage facility in the region.

The attack reportedly involved around 190 drones, many of which managed to penetrate Moscow’s anti-aircraft defenses. The drones struck multiple targets, including residential buildings, commercial centers, and the Moscow Refinery. According to Russian defense officials, the fire at the refinery has largely been contained, and there have been no reported fatalities. However, the scale of the destruction suggests significant infrastructure damage. In response to the attack, Russia announced the initiation of a retaliatory operation targeting enemy energy facilities. The Russian Ministry of Defense stated that ground and air precision weapons, as well as combat drones, were used in this counterattack.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy commented on the attack via social media, stating that Ukraine's long-range sanctions had once again reached Moscow. He described the strike as a fully justified response to Russian attacks on Ukrainian cities and communities. Additionally, he emphasized that it represented another important achievement in the efforts of Ukrainian soldiers against objects supporting the Russian war machine. Zelenskyy also linked the attack to the destruction of a historical monastery in Kyiv by Russian forces, indicating that the action was a direct retaliation for such incidents.

In Kyiv, air raid sirens sounded as part of the alert system, warning residents of potential aerial threats. Local time indicated that the initial alarm was briefly lifted around 2:39 AM before resuming shortly thereafter. A series of explosions were also recorded in the regions of Sumy and Poltava. These developments suggest that the attack was part of a broader pattern of escalation between the two countries.

Russian authorities have accused Ukraine of carrying out the attack, with the Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov announcing that the retaliation would continue in response to the alleged attack on a bus in the Bryansk region. According to local officials in Bryansk, a Ukrainian drone attacked a bus transporting a youth football team from Belarus, resulting in the death of one Belarusian girl accompanying the team and six others injured, including four children.

However, the Ukrainian military denied these claims, asserting that no attacks occurred in the specified area during the timeframe mentioned by Russian authorities. They suggested that the allegations represent yet another instance of informational provocation by the Kremlin. Despite the conflicting narratives, both sides have confirmed that the situation remains tense, with each accusing the other of initiating hostilities. As the conflict continues, further actions and responses are anticipated, potentially leading to more escalations in the ongoing tensions between Russia and Ukraine.
