Chef José Andrés announced a donation of one million dollars to support the recovery of small food businesses affected by the earthquake in Colombia. The initiative will be carried out through World Central Kitchen (WCK), an organization founded by Andrés in 2010 following the Haiti earthquake. The earthquake, which struck on August 10, caused widespread damage, particularly in the town of San José del Palmar, located in Chocó. In addition to Andrés’s contribution, Governor Margarita Guerra of the Magdalena Department announced she would donate her monthly salary to the campaign “Colombia, un solo corazón,” led by First Lady Ana Lucía Pineda. This campaign seeks to mobilize national solidarity and coordinate the collection and distribution of humanitarian aid to families impacted by the disaster. The governor emphasized the importance of collective action during crises, stating that every contribution counts toward helping people rebuild their lives. Andrés, known internationally for his culinary expertise and humanitarian work, has long been recognized for his efforts in disaster relief. He founded WCK with the goal of addressing the immediate needs of communities affected by natural disasters, conflicts, and humanitarian crises.
