The Ringconn Smart Gen 3 has emerged as a compelling alternative to the Oura Ring, offering advanced health monitoring features without requiring a subscription. In a recent test conducted by heise online, the device was praised for its ability to track vital signs, sleep patterns, and even detect early signs of hypertension and sleep apnea. The new model builds upon the success of its predecessor, the Ringconn Smart Ring Gen 2, which was already considered one of the best alternatives to the Oura Ring last year due to its long battery life, accurate measurements, and lack of subscription fees. Now, with the addition of blood pressure detection, the Gen 3 aims to challenge the more expensive Oura Ring 5. The design of the Ringconn Smart Gen 3 retains the distinctive shape of its predecessor, featuring a slightly square form with highly rounded edges. It measures between 2.3 mm and 2.7 mm in thickness, making it relatively slim. Depending on size, the ring weighs between 2.5 and 3.5 grams. It comes in several color options including gold, polished silver, matte black, brushed silver, and rose gold. While the Gen 3 feels comfortable on the finger, it is noticeably thicker and bulkier than the Oura Ring 5, largely due to its rectangular shape and larger battery capacity. This makes it more noticeable on the finger, though still wearable throughout the day. The build quality of the Gen 3 is exceptional, combining titanium on the outside with hypoallergenic epoxy resin inside. This combination ensures both durability and lightness. The device is water-resistant up to 10 ATM, equivalent to 100 meters of water pressure, and can withstand exposure to chlorine and saltwater. However, users are advised to rinse the ring with fresh water after swimming or showering to prevent sensor buildup, followed by drying it thoroughly. It should not be worn in saunas or steam rooms due to the risk of damaging the battery and seals. During intense workouts, it is recommended to remove the ring to avoid potential scratches or injuries. The package includes a sturdy charging case that resembles the ring in design, featuring rounded corners and crafted from high-quality metal. Measuring approximately 64 millimeters wide and 24 millimeters tall, the case is significantly larger than the Oura Ring’s companion, but offers a larger battery capacity. Before purchasing, Ringconn provides a trial kit containing all available sizes ranging from 6 to 15. Users are encouraged to wear the dummy ring for at least 24 hours to account for natural swelling of fingers during the day. To operate the Ringconn Smart Gen 3, the accompanying app must be installed on either iOS or Android devices. After creating an account, the ring pairs quickly via Bluetooth. The app is organized into five sections: “Insights” provides a concise overview of health data, including sleep duration and quality, activity levels, and vital signs. “Discover” highlights recent workouts and possible indicators of sleep apnea or elevated blood pressure. “Health” offers a comprehensive score out of 100 points along with trends related to sleep, waking behavior, activity, and training. Under “Plan,” users can set goals such as sleep schedules or workout routines.
